Remember that $999.99 "I Am Rich" app. which did nothing but show a glowing jewel? Well at least this LOOKS like if it does something.. with allows you to connect and chat to other Rich people who brought the app? There's no other application description. which clearly shows that the developer, "Unype Inc.", wants your curiosity to get the better of you and download it.

Josh's Verdict: DON'T enable One Click Checkout, like that guy who brought "I Am Rich" by accident. By all means, I included the iTunes link below in case you have a real urge to download it. Have fun :)

Google's Measurement Lab tests ISP Traffic Throttling

Google just announced that they have released a tool, partnered with New America Foundation and Planet Labs called Measurement Labs . This tool will give end users the tools to figure out whether internet service providers are interfering with their broadband connections by blocking or “throttling” certain applications.

Google is also providing academic researchers with 36 servers in 12 locations in the U.S. and Europe to develop tools that will allow users to measure the speed of their connections and figure out if their ISPs are blocking certain applications, according to Vint Cerf, the “Father of the internet” and Google’s Internet Evangelist, in a blog post today.

“No matter your views on net neutrality and ISP network management practices, everyone can agree that Internet users deserve to be well-informed about what they’re getting when they sign up for broadband, and good data is the bedrock of sound policy,” Cerf wrote. “Transparency has always been crucial to the success of the Internet, and, by advancing network research in this area, M-Lab aims to help sustain a healthy, innovative Internet.”

Evidence of Next iPhone in firmware?

MacRumors has discovered that Apple's iPhone 2.x Firmware has evidence of the next generation iPhone which has been designated "iPhone2,1".



Apple uses these models numbers to distinguish between different hardware models. The original iPhone carries the model number of "iPhone 1,1" while the 3G iPhone is labeled "iPhone 1,2". These numbers do not change for simple storage increases and instead represent functionally different devices. Similarly, the iPod Touch was originally introduced as the "iPod 1,1" and the most recent hardware revision was labeled "iPod2,1". The 2,1 iPod Touch added a speaker, volume controls, microphone support and a much faster processor than the 1st generation model. This new model number can be found in the USBDeviceConfiguration.plist in an unencrypted firmware.
Rumors of the next generation iPhone point to the support of Multi-Core CPUs and possibly Multi-Core GPUs from Imagination Technologies.

How to: Try Android "Cupcake" yourself

Do you want to see how Cupcake works for yourself? These generic images representing the current state of the public repository branch known as Cupcake can be used in the Android emulator. Follow the steps to get it up and running.

1. Download and install the Android SDK found here.
2. Download this zip containing new latest Android images:

• android_images_sdk1.5.zip (28Mb)

3. Unpack files to a temporary location.
4. Backup the folder /tools/lib/images ( is the Android SDK installation folder)
5. Replace the files ramdisk.img, system.img and userdata.img in /tools/lib/images with the files unpacked from the zip in step 3.
6. Start the emulator and wait.

How to: Enable Emoji on your iPhone!

1. Enter the App Store, purchase and install application 老地方冰果室 ($0.99). Search for FrostyPlace to find this application in the App Store.

Note: This application is a Trad. Chinese language RSS reader for Taiwanese Macintosh news website www.frostyplace.com.



2. Once installed, launch FrostyPlace, tap the speech bubble icon, and then tap a random post.



3. Return to the Home Screen by pressing the Home Button, then tap Settings > General > Keyboard > Japanese

4. You'll notice the Emoji keyboard is now available, switch this On.

Note: If the Emoji keyboard is still not available, return to the FrostyPlace application and tap on another post.



5. Compose a new SMS or email. Tap the globe symbol on the keyboard to access the Emoji keyboard.

Does the recipient of my messages containing Emoji need to do anything in order to see them?

There appears to be a bug (?) in iPhone OS 2.2 triggered by the application mentioned in this article that allows the Emoji keyboard to be switched on without being on a supported Japanese carrier. Enjoy it while it lasts.

No. They will see squares or other character in place of the Emoji.

Rejected "Podcaster" App allowed in the App Store under a different name

Podcaster, now "RSSPlayer" has finally made in into the App Store after a string of rejections from Apple for violating its "duplication of functionality" policy. 
Apple's suddenly cool with the revised app, giving it two thumbs-up on the way to the App Store, but it's not clear if the directory functionality was the problem, there's a policy change in play here, or the name change simply fooled the App Store admins into giving the green light. At any rate, in case you're wondering why you'd shell out $1.99 for the pleasure of this "duplication of functionality," RSS Player will let you blow by iTunes' 10MB limit -- and, of course, you can download any feed you like. iTunes Link

New Zealaner buys MP3 player with US Army files

And you thought Palin/McCain Blackberries were bad. Try the US Army. In November last year the US Defence Department banned the use of portable data storage devices.

However, Chris Ogle from Whangerei got more than he bargained for when he bought an MP3 player from an Oklahoma thrift shop for $18.

When the 29-year-old hooked up the player he discovered a playlist he could never have imagined - 60 files in total, including the names and personal details of American soldiers.

"The more I look at it, the more I see and the less I think I should be!" he says.

Windows Mobile 6.5 shows up on the Compulab exeda

Who cares how the phone looks like. It's awesome. Why? It can boot Android AND Windows Mobile. Did I mention you could also plug in an RH-45 Ethernet cable? And a phone with left/right click mouse?

Anyways, back to the OS, the team just shows us their phone booted with Windows Mobile 6.5 Alpha. Check it out.

Andriod "Cupcake" Screenshots

[Cupcake] was a parallel branch that was used for further development while [the Android team] took on the task of converting a main code branch into an open source format. They merged it back when they were done with the open source transition, not because the engineers working on cupcake had produced a final solid product-worthy result. So, some “works in progress” that had been going on in a dead end parallel branch was merged into master. That doesn’t mean it is ready for release.
That's according to T-Mobile. 
Okay. Cool. So what IS new with my Chocolate cupcake? 


1. New Local Setting Page - Gives you option to pick different locales and pick different text inputs.
2. New Option to view running and third party applications - An option to view running and third party applications from the normal application list. Does not provide a way to terminate them.
3. New windows opening/closing animation effect - a new popping effect when windows are opened/closed.
4. New default notepad - a very simple and ugly default notepad.
5. New Global Time application - not sure if it will be provided by T-Mobile but it’s just a rotating Earth and I couldn’t get it to do anything else.
6. New Spare Parts Application - Once again not sure if the official version will have this, but it provides a number of extra settings such as setting windows animation and transition animation speed, font size, end button behavior and etc. It also has a “display rotation” option which supposedly should allow auto-rotate base on orientation across the entire os, but it is not currently working.
7. New Virtual Keyboard - The virtual keyboard will pop up on every edit box. I didn’t feel any haptic feedback but I am thinking that it’s just not there on the example keyboard. Because the phone does not auto-rotate (an option exists but it doesn’t work), it’s very hard to type on it. The sample keyboard also does not provide auto-corrections.
8. Slightly better looking buttons with more shadow.

Remember the HTC 2009 lineup getting leaked ? And then remember the G2 "Sapphire" in the lineup? Well, someone got a one and got a spyshot. It's expected in May, comes with NO physical keyboard and a 3.2MP.

MacBook White with Nvidia chipset!

No really. NOT a Joke! Apple just upgraded their MacBook White to the SAME specs as their uni-body brothers. For the price of $999! That's awesome for guys who like all that plastic. 

So for the same $999 you now get that newer generation 2.0GHz Core 2 Duo processor with faster 1,066MHz frontside bus, 2GB of 667MHz DDR2 SDRAM memory standard (up from 1GB), and integrated NVIDIA GeForce 9400M graphics. Whitey is still stuck with DDR2 SDRAM though, not the speedier DDR3 found in the unibodies. Disk drive and other specs (including Firewire 400) appear to be the same. You'll also get Bluetooth 2.1 from the old Bluetooth 2.0, as well as no multi-touch trackpad. Remember that.

High Quality Acer Aspire One 10" Shots

Seriously. Are you sick of those grainy spyshots? Well, stop asking for them, you'll got them right here!

According to SlashGear : It looks like Acer is doing a good just of scaling up the size of their portable notebook without loosing the basic concept. We can see that the trackpad buttons have made a bit of a journey to just below the pad. .  Good news though on the underside of the device as there are not three panes that can be removed to access the internals rather than the one that was previously on the Aspire One. Also the second memory card reader has been removed from this mode

As we stated previously the new 10.1-inch Acer Aspire is expected to include the standard Atom processor and anywhere up to 2GB of RAM. The screen should have the same 1024 x 600 screen resolution as seen in previous modes.  It is nice to see a larger screen without bumping the price up to a higher price range.

Asus' Eee PC Touch new UI - Verdict: It's Awesome!

Having trouble figuring out how a touchscreen Eee PC could fit into your life? No worries, ASUS just did all the heavy synaptic lifting for you with the release of a near 6-minute video showing its new Eee PC Touch UI. A UI teased at CES and built specifically for ASUS' new touchcreen Eees. All in all it makes a pretty case for why you should pick up a new Eee PC T91 or T101H convertible tablet later this year. Let's just hope the processor can cope.

Green House Kana Micro: The world's SMALLEST MP3 player

Seriously. What do Japs think of next. That's even smaller than my iPod shuffle. Nice. Except you'll need to provide your own MicroSD card more storage (up to 2GB). And did I mention the battery life? It's 2 hours before you need to recharge via USB again.

Windows 7: Anti-Virus Choices

Folks have been asking about anti-virus solutions that work with the Windows 7 Beta. In anticipation of this, Microsoft has been actively working with security partners to help them get their applications ready for Windows 7. Three security vendors have taken the build we released to developers at the PDC in October and have developed solutions available today that work with the Windows 7 Beta. The following anti-virus solutions are available viaWindows 7 Security Provider page:

• Symantec offers the Norton 360 3.0 Beta which works on the Windows 7 Beta
• AVG offers AVG Internet Security and AVG Anti-Virus that works with the Windows 7 Beta
• Kaspersky is offering a technical preview of Kaspersky Anti-Virus for Windows 7.

Acer announced the release of the AAO 10 "for the month of February 2009, and already leaks appear on the Net.

How to: Set up your Hotmail POP3 settings

Windows Live Hotmail aka MSN Hotmail finally is adding POP3 and SMTP support for its free user base. Previously, POP3 and SMTP access is only available to paid Windows Live Hotmail Plus subscribers. POP3 and SMTP protocols allows user to use desktop-based or mobiled-based (such as iPhone) email client to access Hotmail mailboxes without opening web browser to browse to web-based Hotmail online.

The free POP3 and SMTP access will be available to all, each and every Hotmail users eventually. However, during the initial rolling out stage, the POP3 and SMTP support on the Hotmail account will be enabled in stage by country and regional market. Windows Live blog announced that Hotmail users in the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, France, Japan, Spain, Germany, Italy, and the Netherlands are the first to enjoy the free POP3 and SMTP service as part of Hotmail wave 3 roll out. Good news is, all Hotmail users should have POP3 and SMTP enabled and turned on in their account by end of 2009.

To setup mail client to access Windows Live Hotmail account, use the following Hotmail POP3 and SMTP configuration settings:

Incoming Server (POP3 Server): pop3.live.com
Incoming Server POP Port: 995
Incoming Server POP SSL Encryption: Yes (On or Required)

Outgoing Server (SMTP Server): smtp.live.com
Outgoing Server SMTP Port: 25
Outgoing Server Authentication: Yes (On - Use POP username and password or Hotmail credentials)
