Twitter Relaunches Find People

Want to see if your friends, family, or colleagues are on Twitter? Now you can through the microblogging tool’s re-launched people search, which lets you query the service by username or first/last name to find other users. The feature had been taken down earlier this year when Twitter was experiencing significant downtime issues.
In addition to helping you find people, or simply see whether or not you’re the most popular Pete, Adam, or Stan on the service, the search interface integrates Twitter’s invite tool that lets you email your friends about Twitter.

Part of that tool is an address book import which will show you which of your contacts are already on Twitter so you can follow them. That feature’s also not new, but when included with Twitter’s now prominent people search, it could give yet another viral boost to the service.
Best of all, all of these features, at press time, are loading extremely fast, lending more credibility to the notion that Twitter’s performance issues are behind it. You can check out people search from here or from the new “Find People” link that has been added to Twitter’s main navigation menu.

Web 2.0 Guru? Try this Quiz!

Besides the funny names and bad spellings, one hallmark of Web startups over the past few years has been the creative use of logos. Often you know a startup by its logo more than by its name, especially if it is for a Web app whose site you don’t actually visit that often. Instead, the logo appears as a favicon in your browser address window, or as an icon on another site.
How well do you know your Web 2.0 logos? Take this quiz to find out. There are 33 logos. See how many you can name.

Josh's Verdict:  Most of them are easy, but there are a few tricky ones thrown in. What did I get? 31/34. Not too bad.

Best Buy gets Windows XP and Vista confused

bestbuyadd
“Surf and e-mail with the simplicity of Windows XP”, said the header above the netbook section. That’s a great line; it’s simple and to the point. Thing is, the display of every netbook below the header is showing not XP, but Vista.

Oddly, everyone of the netbook models shown does come with XP by default. All they had to do to catch the error was actually look at one of them, or at least hit up Google Image Search for “default Windows XP desktop

Rumor: Dell Adamo to have DisplayPort, BluRay drive

Can you feel it? Dell's Adamo is just about here, and the anticipation is palpable. We already learned that the unit's 45-watt power adapter wouldn't be anything special, but a Google cache shot of accessories and such from Dell's own website is giving us a presumed look at what could be announced alongside the ultraportable. For starters, we get the impression that it'll boast DisplayPort (judging by the DisplayPort-to-HDMI / VGA / etc. adapters) and at least have an option for a 2x Blu-ray combo drive. We're also seeing 250GB / 500GB internal / external SATA drives and an auto / air adapter for powering the machine in your vehicle / personally owned 747. Only the suits in Round Rock know if these will actually come to fruition, but honestly, why bother hosting these up on your website if they weren't on the way? Read

NVIDIA reportedly urging customers to buy new problem-free GPUs

NVIDIA has yet to step in and confirm this publicly, but a purported leaked memo from the outfit has been posted over at VR-Zone. What's it say, you ask? Only that the company "strongly recommends that customers transition to the latest revision of the NB8E-SET GPUs as soon as possible." Said revision taps a new Hitachi underfill packaging material that "improves product quality and enhances operating life by improved thermal cycling reliability." If you'll recall, certain PC vendors such as Dell issued their own firmware updates to combat the weak packaging set in the chip maker's faulty GPUs earlier this year, but it appears that NVIDIA's solution is to just let bygones be bygones and get on with the new and improved. Asus offers Eee branded keyboard / mouse combo and remote

If your Eee Box experience is lacking something that you can't quite put your finger on, we're 85.32% sure we know what'll fill that void. According to Eee PC News, ASUS is gearing up to ship an Eee-branded wireless keyboard / mouse combo in both black and white motifs, and if that's still not enough Eee to cure your fever, the multi-function remote should handle those media center duties with ease. There's no mention of a price or release date, so we suppose you should assume these are completely fictional until proven otherwise.

Josh's Verdict: Seriously, I just brought a Eee Box yesterday. The keyboard/mouse that comes with it is branded as "Vento by ASUS", which isn't too bad to be honest: It's waterproof, and it's pretty easy to type with. But boy, that new keyboard sure looks nice :) I'll show some unboxing shots later.

8GB refurb iPhone 3Gs for $99 on contract

Ha, you or someone you love just paid full retail for an iPhone 3G a few days ago, didn't you? We've always heard that the best deals come after Christmas, but people just never learn. All smack talk aside, those who didn't get a new cellie under the tree, but did acquire a Benjamin or so courtesy of cash-stuffed holiday cards, can certainly score a big deal today. AT&T is now offering the 8GB iPhone 3G in refurbished form for just $99 with a two-year agreement, while the 16GB refurb is $199 on contract in either black or white. Call us crazy, but we don't foresee these hanging around in stock for too awfully long. Read
